When MS Outlook is used to receive confidential and business important mails, PST (Personal Storage Table) password protection feature can add to its data security. Unlike other email client information files, PST is the single file that centrally stores all email messages, contacts, notes, calendar entries etc. So, it becomes quite convenient to access the data. We can scan it and open it in Outlook for use. The utility has two basic limitations: It doesn’t support Unicode format of Outlook 2003 and 2007 and secondly, it may fail in several cases.

Outlook uses 32-bit hash value to store the password that can be generated using CRC32 (Cyclic Redundancy Check32) algorithm. Thus any value that can match the corresponding CRC value can be used to open the locked PST. Commercial PST Password Recovery programs make it feasible to get these matching set of passwords.
